President of Seattle Central’s Phi Theta Kappa Recogni …


Tomas Chatila, the president of Phi Theta Kappa at SCC, has received the International Distinguished Chapter Officer Hallmark Award at Phi Theta Kappa’s International Convention Conference, which was held in Kansas City,  MO on April 20, 2018.

The criteria for receiving this award is solely based on the recipients’ demonstration of leadership, promotion of Honors in Action and enthusiasm for the Society’s Hallmarks.

“I never knew I was capable of managing so many tasks. However, this job has taught me how much I love dealing with challenges and achieving an effective project with the team in an efficient and productive manner,” says Chatila.

On March 26, Mr Chatila also received the Greater Northwest Region Distinguished Chapter Officer Award. The greater Northwest region has 62 PTK chapters, and the way distinguished chapter officers rank up are based on how many points they receive from the following criteria: Goal Setting, Planning and Implementation, Leadership, and Impact/Scope, Mentor/ Role model, Cooperative Effort, Communication, Knowledge of Phi Theta Kappa programming opportunities.  The International officer, the highest student leaders in PTK’s organization, evaluate the candidates’ essay and score points to award the Distinguished Chapter Officer Award for the region.

Of his term Chatila says, “As I took the leadership role of being the President, my objective was to expand, grow and create a bigger picture for PTK by implementing diversity and inclusion. After three quarters have passed and our term is reaching the end, we have achieved so much.”

Mr. Chatila looks forward to ensuring a smooth transition for the next officers’ team on the induction ceremony on May 31.
